About Gill
Qualifications and Career
I have a LLB (Hons) BA degree from Auckland University and have practised in environmental law for over 20 years. Starting at one of the large law firms as a graduate, I later worked in the UK for a couple of years gaining advocacy experience, following which I was appointed as in-house counsel for one of New Zealand’s largest companies for nearly ten years. During this time, I gained a valuable understanding of corporate management and how to provide practical advice that takes account of a company’s strategic objectives.
Since commencing practice as a barrister sole in 2005 I have provided advice to a large range of clients including corporates, community groups and individuals. I enjoy problem solving, the challenge of resource management law, its interface with local government law and the wide range of issues arising.
Outside of work, I chair the board of trustees of Baradene College and like to spend time with my family and friends, play tennis and cycle on my e-bike.

Opinion / legal advice on environmental and planning issues including due diligence and compliance
Advising on administrative law issues – declarations, enforcement proceedings, prosecutions and judicial review
Advising on designations and large infrastructure projects
Advising on all aspects of resource management related legislation
Advising on local government legislation, the Electricity Act and the Public Works Act
Advocacy work including mediations and appearing before Councils and the Courts
